French, 1850-1924 was a French realist painter, sculptor, and printmaker who exhibited with the Impressionists. He was also active as an actor and writer. He was born in Paris, and showed an interest in music and theatre before becoming a painter in 1870. One of his landscape paintings was accepted for exhibition at the Salon in that same year. In October 1871 he began three months of study under Jean-Leon Gerôme at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris; he had no other formal training. Welsh Romantic Painter, ca.1713-1782 British landscape painter, b. Wales. He studied in London and achieved success as a portrait painter, but after a visit to Italy (c.1750?C1756) he devoted himself to landscape in the classical tradition of Claude Lorrain. The exhibition of Wilson's Niobe in 1760 won him acclaim, and he was made a member and later librarian of the Royal Academy. His work did not become generally popular until after his death. Although his Italian landscapes did not depart from the classical tradition of picturesque Roman ruins and recumbent nymphs, his work shows considerable originality and breadth of treatment, especially in his many fine paintings of English country houses. (Januar 1846 in Döhlau bei Hof (Oberfranken); 8. Oktober 1937 in Ansbach) war ein deutscher Maler. Alt war der Sohn des Döhlauer Pastors Heinrich Alt und dessen Ehefrau Justina Ziegler. Nach erstem Unterricht durch seinen Vater besuchte Alt die Lateinschule in Regensburg, wo sein Vater von 1856 bis 1870 der evangelischen Gemeinde vorstand. 1861 wechselte er an die Kunstgewerbeschule N??rnberg, wo er als Schuler von Hans Ringlein bis 1863 blieb. Im Spatsommer desselben Jahres wechselte Alt mit Empfehlung seiner Lehrer an die Kunstakademie in M??nchen. Dort wurde er zuerst Sch??ler von Hermann Ansch??tz und in den Jahren 1866 bis 1873 bei Arthur von Ramberg.
Mina Kolokolnikov
1708e-1775e) was a Russian painter and teacher. Kolokolnikov was born in the village of Kravotyn in Tver gubernia. He was a serf of the Pafnutievo-Borovsky Monastery, and learnt the art of portrait painting from Ivan Nikitich Nikitin and Louis Caravaque; he also studied icon painting with Vasily Vasilevsky. He is known to have assisted in the decoration of the palace at Tsarskoye Selo, and to have lived for a time in St. Petersburg, where one of his pupils was Trifon Anisimov. One of his portraits is in the Tver Regional Picture Gallery. He worked in the studio of Alexei Antropov; consequently, it is often difficult to tell Kolokolnikov's works from Antropov's, as both have very similar technique. Kolokolnikov's brothers Ivan and Fedot were also painters.
